Description

Hotel O’Farrill 4*

Arturo O’Farrill, musician and executive of New York’s Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra, was a visitor of honor in the yearly Havana Jazz Festival, in 2010.

Exactly 300 years prior, his Irish predecessor, José Ricardo O`Farrill, arrived in Havana and made a fortune on sugar. Cuba and Ireland have a long, rich history inseparably connected through music.

The courtyard of the pilgrim is a green garden with iron seats for enjoying drinks. You can see the mobility that exists in Cuba Street, without losing the tranquillity inside the Hotel.

The Don Ricardo restaurant located inside the Hotel a landmark in Irish food and the entrance bar decorated with photographs and articles dedicated to Latin jazz. As anyone can expect, this accommodation is the most loved one for the guests of Ireland.

The floors present an old style, but as they rise the styles are more of the XX century.

3.2 "Charming old building"

We stayed here for 4 nights. The hotel is located within walking distance of most of Old Havana's tourists sites and is nearer to the Malecon than Vieja. There are some run down streets with lots of dilapidation surrounding it, but that can be said for most of Old Havana. The hotel itself is a charming old building with a central courtyard where meals are served. The breakfast can get quite monotonous as it lacked the variety of food found in some of the fancier establishments. We didn't make use of the restaurant for other meals. The rooms are very large and even though the furnishings are outdated, they are well maintained. The reception area could do with some modernisation and redecoration, seeming quite dark and dingy on entering. We didn't have any problems with the staff who were all friendly and helpful to us. 3.4 "Great location, rooms and facilities just fair"

This charming old Havana hotel is in an excellent location, just inside the boundaries of quaint, charming Old Havana. All of Old Havana is completely dilapidated and crumbling, but this hotel is in fair condition (though it's surrounded by crumbling, old, crowded and squalid residential buildings). The ground floor appears charming, in the Old Havana style, with a central sun-lit atrium. The rooms are adequate size, with adequate (just barely) amenities, but there are regularly recurring problems with water service, e.g., we had NO cold water (only scalding hot water, meaning one could not bathe or shower) for 4 hours straight during the 4-8PM period every day we were there. The food in the dining room is mediocre. But I'm not confident that any other hotel in the Habana Vieja area is any better. From RobertMB1506 Chicago, Illinois Stayed October 2015, travelled solo
