Why You Need to Visit Havana

Thinking of a Holiday in Havana? Old American cars, beautiful colonial buildings, rum, music, dancing and the sunshine are all visions we have of Havana and if you visit for yourself, you will see all this first hand but will also experience the vibrancy of this beautiful city and meet some of the friendliest people in the world.

There is so much to do in a Havana holiday and a lot to be crammed in so you simply cannot get bored.

Is There a Beach in Havana?

Not in the city itself but a short drive away (about 20 minutes) is a beautiful beach called Playa del Este, and here you will find the familiar powder soft, white sand of the Caribbean.  It’s an excellent place to spend some time relaxing if you want to escape the city for a few hours.

Is Havana Safe?

Very.  Unlike the capital cities of some of its Caribbean neighbours, crime in Havana is still rare and petty crimes against tourists is almost unheard of.

Is Havana an Easy City to Get Around?

One of the joys of a Havana Holiday is that it is a big city but quite compact so getting about is very easy.  In the old town itself, everything is within walking distance but, if you want to explore further afield too, say, Miramar or Vedado, there is a plentiful supply of taxis in the city as well as an excellent “hop-on/hop off” bus service which covers a lot of the main areas.  It is also incredibly inexpensive using either the taxi or the bus.

Where Should I Eat in Havana?

Havana is teeming with restaurants and bars, so you won’t ever be struggling to find somewhere.  Probably the best places to eat are at the private “paladares” where you’ll find good quality, home-cooked food.  A meal for two will be around 10-20 CUCs per head, so it is also very reasonable. These places serve traditional Cuban cooking, but many are now branching out and offer international dishes too.

What’s the Nightlife like in Havana?

In a word, fantastic!  Whether you want to visit the National Ballet or listen to live salsa, jazz or pretty much any other sort of music, this city has it all.  If you have a week on a Havana Holiday, you will be able to discover something different every evening.

How Long Should I stay in Havana?

There is a lot to do, and you could happily spend several weeks without running out of things to do but, if you decide to have a Havana Holiday for seven nights, then you will get to know it and to meet its people.

If, however, you are staying in Havana as part of a multi-centre tour of Cuba, then we recommend a three-night stay.
