This was our second time at Sol Rio, and it was as pleasant as expected! It was a last moment deal, and we don't regret a thing. Food was amazing, good drinks (especially mojitos!) and the dinner on 24th of December was excellent.The beach is good with lots of shade and chairs ( a guy brings you the chairs wherever you want). The water is nice and clear, and you can go snorkeling on the right far end of the beach. The staff is amazing, it was very nice to remember a few of them after about three years! Our room was on Luna side, very clean and comfortable, we always go for the quiet side of the resort where we enjoy the quiet pool and terrasse and the nice lobby with quiet music in the evening. There are different bands singing at the Mares lobby followed by a show at the theatre, and it was very fun. All in all it was a very nice Christmas week and we can't wait to come back one day!. I have stayed at all hotels in Holguin (except the Villa Covarrubias) and the Sol Luna Mares has, by far, the best beach. Playa Esmeralda is the reason so many people keep coming back to this place year over year. The hotel is your typical 4 star. No luxury here, but the service is very friendly and the resort is clean. Food is 4 star, Cuban quality. You will not be hungry. This is a favorite for repeat clients. I got marries at this resort 10 years ago and they did a wonderful job :) I have visited two times since.
