Description

Hotel El Castillo 3*

Built in 1977 on top of an old fort that was strategically located to protect the area. In this place located the first city of Cuba, a place attacked by pirates and buccaneers that lurked the waters of the Caribbean. This large yellow building is located on a hill that surrounds the city and it is for this reason that the Hotel El Castillo is one of the favourite places to stay among travellers. The decoration of El Castillo has influence from Africa to Scotland, so it is not only an interesting place to stay but also to admire.

There are 85 steps to reach the hotel from its base, which makes it an incredible point of view to see the splendour of Baracoa, one of the few places still untouched in Cuba.

We recommend a visit to Baracoa and its national parks, which are different from other places in Cuba, its rivers and parks will certainly keep you entertained while enjoying the warmth of its native people.

3.8 "sheltered lunch by the pool"

It may seem a stiff climb up many steps, but it's worth it. El Castillo is a fine place to have a snack lunch by a swimming pool. Order food and drink from the bar, and sit either on the bench seats or the loungers by the pool. we had excellent toasted tuna sandwiches and our usual Kristall beer. Fine view over the sea and the town, and sheltered from strong winds. Provided you don't need changing facilities, you can walk (not dive) into the large pool without fuss. From geoffreyLerum lerum. Stayed March 2016, travelled as a couple.

4.0 "Nice location, view and pool"

We stayed here one night on a tour of the eastern part of the island. The hotel was friendly and it would have been nice to spend a day by the pool. The hotel was airy with a large, open foyer. Breakfast was acceptable with eggs to order. Recommend. From Decoamie Washington, DC. Stayed February 2016, travelled with friends.
