This is a beautiful classic hotel in the heart of old Quito. The hotel is beautiful, both inside and out. The rooms are beautifully appointed, comfortable, and large, considering both the age of the building and the location in the heart of the old town. The only complaint was the air conditioning had trouble keeping up. The windows open and Quito, being at 9000 ft elevation, cools down at night, so we were able to keep the room cool by opening windows, but this is the middle of a bustling city, and if you're noise sensitive, this might be a consideration (and the entire reason this is a four star review instead of five). Service was excellent. The hotel staff went out of their way to make us comfortable and cater to our (sometimes random) needs. We ate a couple of meals at the hotels, both excellent. The hotel is perfectly placed for visiting the old city area, it faces the San Francisco square. The atmosphere in the hotel is relaxed but efficient. There is a good restaurant on site & afternoon tea is served in the pleasant lounge area. The staff are very pleasant and helpful and the whole ambiance of the hotel is good.
